Material Wellbeing
摘要
In this chapter, we first describe various definitions and metrics of material wellbeing. These include satisfaction with economic situation, financial situation, income adequacy, perceived financial security, aggregate satisfaction with marketplace activities, satisfaction with standard of living, aggregate feelings about major goods and services, and aspirations and attainment of material goods. We then describe the research related to the positive association between material wellbeing and overall happiness. In doing so, we discuss research related to money resources and overall happiness, time resources and overall happiness, and material consumption and overall happiness. The chapter concludes by describing the factors influencing material wellbeing—personal, psychological, and environmental.
