In this chapter, we familiarise you with the theoretical framework we used to guide our co-designed research project. The approach effectively involved a quilting together of key feminist concepts that explain structural gender inequalities and socio-cultural gender discourses (McNay, L., The Sociological Review 52:175-190, 2004), intersectionality (Crenshaw, K., Stanford Law Review 43:1241, 1991) and a feminist approach to participatory action research guided by a feminist ethics of care (Miele, R., Root, J., Godderis, R., & Meerai, S., Studies in Social Justice, 18(1), 125-142, 2024). The central aim of the chapter is to demonstrate how a feminist perspective can guide the processes of participatory and action-oriented co-design methods in ways that include young women and strive towards increased gender equality in society.
