In this chapter it is argued that Chilean workers posit truthful writing as a manifestation of a form of collective authorship which grounds Reason and Truth on the shared experience of labor. It addresses this issue by reading Chilean working-class writings in light of (1) discussions about the relationship between the body, labor and radical writing in Marxist theory (Friedrich Engels, Marshall Berman and David McNally); (2) the concept of authorship in Pierre-Joseph Proudhon and Walter Benjamin, and Jacques Derrida’s (‘La parole soufflée’) argument about intellectual property as always-already stolen. The chapter concludes that for Chilean workers the absence of authorship and a lack of proper writing skills are preconditions for truthful working-class writing.
