Although the statistics around women entrepreneurship in Bahrain are impressive, yet the socio-cultural dynamics that affect the entrepreneurial experience of women is very complex and remain unexplored. The available literature is predominantly centered on economic considerations, often neglecting the role of cultural factors. Following the principle of Bahrain Vision 2030 to provide encouraging environment that ensures aspirations of women development, the current qualitative explorative study aimed to identify the perspectives of women entrepreneurs towards factors that affect both personal and business development based on their lived experiences in Bahrain. The study aims to identify an alternative and culture-centric model; employing in-depth interviews to ascertain what the unique socio-cultural context was of Bahrain with regards to entrepreneurship. The insights from the findings will shed light on how cultural, family and gender norms converge in the business arena and serve as lessons to policymakers and scholars. This research by locating itself in the geopolitical space of the GCC region also makes a wider contribution to understanding socio-cultural influences of women’s entrepreneurship in this gulf region. The results will contribute to the formulation of inclusive policies, and the establishment of sustainable entrepreneurial ecosystems for women within and beyond Bahrain and the GCC.
