Petroleum extraction and processing produce a large amount of petroleum wastewater. The wastewater has a complex composition, strong emulsifying properties, and a wide variety of pollutants and chemicals. If it is leaked into the natural environment, it will lead to environmental deterioration and challenge global environmental management. Although conventional treatment meets the emission standards, it still has shortcomings in the application of valuable resources. This chapter summarizes the pollution characteristics of petroleum wastewater and expounds on the current situation and limitations of physical, chemical, biological, and combined treatment of petroleum wastewater. Then, the advantages and limitations of separation efficiency of petroleum wastewater of dissolved air flotation, electro flotation, micro-nano bubbles (MNBs) flotation, and responsive surfactant foam are discussed. Finally, compared the traditional flotation process, we point out the disadvantages of the traditional flotation process and the advantages of MNBs flotation and responsive surfactant foam recovery process, providing valuable insights into the green and sustainable recovery of petroleum wastewater resources.

摘要
