The oil sector generates a lot of waste on a global scale, including generated water, oil sludge, and flue gasses, all of which can harm the environment. The waste of these kinds need to be treated and handled safely. A number of methods are available for treating oil industry waste, but sustainable treatment and management of oil and gas industry waste require combination of ideas for resource recovery and recycling those are consistent with the viewpoints of the circular economy. It is crucial to promote sustainability in the oil sector, minimize environmental effects, and turn waste into economically valuable products. This chapter introduces eco-efficiency as a guiding principle to optimize resource utilization while minimizing environmental harm by focusing on cost-effective yet environmentally friendly strategies. It also explores eco-design, a proactive approach that integrates environmental considerations into the design phase of processes, equipment, and waste management systems. This concept ensures sustainability embedded into the lifecycle of oil field operations, from extraction to disposal and serves as a resource for researchers and industry professionals aiming to achieve a balance between industrial progress and environmental responsibility in oil field waste management.
