Comparative Examination of Seismic Behavior of Different RC Building Configurations with Soft Storey
摘要
The approach of the seismic vulnerability is considered to be a prime aspect in the designing and assessing the performance of the structures, especially in the areas of higher seismic activities. With due consideration of the application of the type of structure, some of the vertical structural elements can be eliminated due to providing more space without compromising the stiffness of the structural elements. This study focused on the investigation of the seismic behaviour of the structures with the provision of soft storeys and diverse building configurations. Numerical simulations and analytical models were considered in assessing the structural behavior with the provision soft storeys on different structural systems, giving due consideration to the height of the structure, placement of the soft storeys and distribution of mass and stiffness. The combination of provision of soft storeys and varying building configuration nuanced the dynamics of the structural model under the action of seismic events. The study concludes that the structural behaviour of the structures got affected with consideration of different building configurations. Performance parameters that affect the dynamicity of the structures such as IDR, column forces and shear stresses are assessed, followed by the determination of Building Performance Levels after conducting Pushover Analysis. The findings of the study aid in understanding the structural behaviour of the different configurations of structures under seismic activities and may be helpful in designing and analysis of existing RC structures for fulfilling their structural requirement of durability and serviceability.
