The Influence of the Big Five Personality Traits on Forgiveness Among University Students
摘要
Forgiveness plays a crucial role in daily interpersonal relationships, and one of the factors influencing it is personality. The Big Five Personality Model is one of the theoretical frameworks used to understand personality. The Big Five dimensions consist of extraversion, agreeableness, conscientiousness, emotional stability, and intellect. This study aims to explore the relationship between the Big Five dimensions and forgiveness, as well as to identify the contribution of each dimension to the tendency to forgive. This research is a quantitative correlational study involving 278 university students as participants. The results of the linear regression analysis show an F-value of 14.217 with a significance level of 0.000 (P < 0.05), indicating that there is an influence of the Big Five personality traits on forgiveness. The analysis also revealed an adjusted R Square value of 0.049, meaning that collectively, the Big Five personality dimensions contribute 4.9% to forgiveness. Other factors contribute 95.1% to forgiveness among students. The results of the minor hypothesis testing show that the dimensions of agreeableness, conscientiousness, and intellect significantly influence forgiveness and have the strongest impact compared to the other two Big Five personality dimensions.
