The Malaysia Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) has stated that they consider the Global Innovation Index (GII) as a reliable indicator of Malaysia’s current innovation capabilities. According to the GII data for 2022, Malaysia is rated 36th out of the 132 economies included in the GII, which is a minor decrease compared to the previous year despite a huge investment of innovation invested by the government. This shift places a strong emphasis on innovation and acknowledges the education sector as a major force behind Malaysia's economic progress through Innovative Work Behaviour (IWB). IWB can be defined as intentional generation, promotion, and realization of new ideas within a work role, work group, or organization. It is important to analyze how leadership (servant, charismatic and ethical) tend to influence the IWB. On top of that, there is a dearth of study on IWB among professors in Malaysia private universities. Therefore, this conceptual paper seeks to analyze prior literature in order to identify the leadership elements that influence IWB. The findings of this study suggest a significant relationship between the servant, charismatic and ethical leadership on IWB. By integrating servant, charismatic, and ethical leadership approaches have implied that the leaders are able to create a nurturing, motivating, and morally principled environment that encourages innovation. These measures will boost professors’ productivity, performance, well-being and ultimately will advance Malaysia’s performance in the Global Innovation Index (GII) as well as increasing its contribution to economic growth. Furthermore, this study provides useful insights to enhance the current knowledge in the IWB area. Future research should focus on doing a more in-depth investigation into this topic, specifically exploring the degree to which the elements found in this study have an impact. Moreover, additional empirical research is required to investigate the influence of different leadership qualities on professors’ innovative work behaviour.

摘要
