Study of Tuned Liquid Damper in T-Shaped Buildings
摘要
Tall, slender and irregular shaped buildings are most prone to seismic induced vibrations. Mitigation of such structural vibrations is a very challenging task. Conversion of existing water tanks to tuned liquid dampers without affecting its basic purpose is explored by many researchers. Tuned Liquid Dampers (TLD) is a liquid filled water tank which uses liquid sloshing action to dampen the oscillation of structures. This study investigated the effectiveness of TLD in controlling the dynamic response of buildings with a T-shape in plan using ETABS software. The research employs simulation studies to analyze buildings and determine the optimal location and depth ratio of the liquid for maximum damping performance. The study evaluated buildings of varying heights and plans, with TLDs located at different positions at the top of the structure. The results indicate that half and three-eighth filled TLDs placed away from the center of gravity of the structure provides optimum performance. The study aimed to contribute to the practical application of TLDs in T-shaped buildings, offering a cost-effective and sustainable solution for seismic vibration control.
