To make a conceptual start, we describe the representation of time, the notion of state space, and the idea that a dynamical system consists of a collection of maps sending the current state to the state at a later time. We explain what is meant by generator and how that relates, in continuous time, to differential equations. We discuss orbits, phase portraits, and equivalence of dynamical systems. We present various examples, including symbolic dynamics.

摘要

To make a conceptual start, we describe the representation of time, the notion of state space, and the idea that a dynamical system consists of a collection of maps sending the current state to the state at a later time. We explain what is meant by generator and how that relates, in continuous time, to differential equations. We discuss orbits, phase portraits, and equivalence of dynamical systems. We present various examples, including symbolic dynamics.
