Maternal immunization, the vaccination of pregnant women to prevent maternal, foetal, and neonatal morbidity and mortality, has emerged as an exciting and rapidly expanding area of vaccine-preventable disease research and clinical practice over the past two decades. By leveraging the transfer of vaccine-induced maternal antibodies during pregnancy and breastfeeding, maternal immunization offers a unique opportunity to protect the mother, the foetus, and the infant simultaneously.
