Pertussis is more severe in patients diagnosed of asthma or COPD. Vaccines are efficacious in its prevention. As the effectivity wanes off, there is a non universal recommendation to revaccinate older adults. Vaccination of the pregnant has an effectivity up to 90% to protect young babies, when the disease is more severe. Tetanus and diphtheria protection also fade, so adults need regular boosters.
