The Role of the Nurse and Pharmacology in Practice
摘要
Medication administration has always been a core aspect of the nursing process. Changing responsibilities and policy require nurses engage with pharmacology early during their education to help them consolidate core principles by the time they qualify. Generic principles of pharmacology related to pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics, polypharmacy and medication review, and considerations related to sustainability are important to all nurses. Advanced nurse practice frequently obligating prescribing responsibilities, further requires a more detailed understanding of a restricted list of medications. This changed landscape presents challenges to nurse education and clinical preceptorship. This chapter explores these issues with an aim to help nurse educators and managers prepare nurses for future practice.
