We propose a neurally based model of joint boundary and figure completion, which takes into account the arrangements of simple cells in orientation maps. This map is modeled as a regular surface in a sub-Riemannian structure and the propagation process is studied on the surface. Application to Kanizsa triangle is considered, and results compared with high-resolution fMRI measurements of completion phenomena in \(V_1\) .
