The Implementation of Digital Birth Certificates in Mexico: Enablers, Outcomes, and Lessons Learned

The introduction of digital birth certificates was a game changer in Mexico. It enhanced access to various public services and served as a launchpad for digitalizing other services, like licenses for professional practice. This significant achievement resulted from intense negotiations and collaboration between the federal and state governments that ultimately allowed them to arrive at solutions combining respect for subnational autonomy and setting forth common regulations so that citizens across the country could have equal access to the new service.
