Not all photos, graphics, and video communicate information quickly. Visual content can promote or quickly discourage engagement. This chapter examines the advantages and disadvantages of visual media, laying the groundwork for a new interface with more explanatory visuals that can quickly generate situational interest without overwhelming users. The essential rules for visual engagement are discussed, which are not always applied, even though visuals and video can be colorful and interesting initially.
