This chapter takes a look at the origins of accrediting (or certifying) learning from certificate to degree level and maps many of the recent changes that have occurred in recent years. It links these changes to a wider and mostly European Union led employability agenda. It then outlines the many difficulties with this practice given the extent to which many key concepts including Quality Assurance in totality is deeply contested concepts and means different things to different people.
