Most people who have studied adult and community education have taken at least one class that outlines different philosophies of education. But how reliable are these categorizations and why do we need philosophies at all. This chapter argues that it is important that theory underpins our work and it makes the case for critical feminist pedagogy as the most appropriate such theoretical foundation.

Most people who have studied adult and community education have taken at least one class that outlines different philosophies of education. But how reliable are these categorizations and why do we need philosophies at all. This chapter argues that it is important that theory underpins our work and it makes the case for critical feminist pedagogy as the most appropriate such theoretical foundation.
