Being an Environmental Sociologist
摘要
In the fall of 1989, when the year changed to Heisei (1989), the Japan Sociological Society organized a thematic session on ‘Environment’ for the first time, led by Nobuko Iijima, Hiroyuki Torigoe, and Harutoshi Funabashi, all three of whom were already leading researchers in the field of environment. All three were still young. Iijima was 51 years old, Torigoe was 45 years old, and Funabashi was 41 years old. This thematic session led to the establishment of the Environmental Sociology Study Group at Hōsei University’s Tama Campus on May 19, 1990. Fifty-three members gathered. I was also one of the 53 founding members. From the outset, we were mindful of our goal to establish an academic society.
