Research on Hindustani classical music (HCM) has gained significant momentum over the past two decades. This study examines the publication trends of works related to HCM available in the Scopus database through a bibliometric analysis. Bibliometric analysis is an effective method for analyzing large volumes of scientific data. Documents were extracted from the Scopus database using keywords related to Hindustani classical music (e.g., ‘Hindustani classical music,’ ‘North Indian classical music,’ ‘raga’) published between January 1996 and December 2024. The initial search yielded 1,245 papers, but after thorough screening, 393 articles were selected for the bibliometric analysis. Our research employed both descriptive and network analytical techniques. The descriptive analysis shows that research on HCM has increased significantly between 1996 and 2024, with a continuous rise over the last decade. Country-specific analysis reveals that India has the highest number of publications in the field of HCM. Other countries, such as the United States and the United Kingdom, have also contributed to and supported research in this area. Citation analysis indicates that papers authored by Indian organizations and researchers have received the most citations, followed by those from Canada and the USA. The “Journal of New Music Research” and “Ethnomusicology” are the two journals that have published the most articles related to HCM. Keyword analysis highlights terms such as “feature extraction”, “electroencephalogram”, “computational musicology”, and “improvisation”, which have appeared in studies related to HCM, reflecting the diverse areas of research conducted up to 2024.
