This chapter identifies key directions for future research in evolutionary economics, focusing on how the field can respond to accelerating technological disruption, ecological pressure, and geopolitical shifts. It offers a roadmap for inquiry into long-term resource stewardship, institutional resilience, global interdependence, and the role of digital transformation—especially artificial intelligence—not only as a topic of analysis but also as a modeling tool. While some of the proposals draw on the legacy of Georgescu-Roegen and the post-growth tradition, this chapter presents that lineage as one among many viable pathways. The broader aim is to encourage a pluralistic and adaptive approach to economic inquiry, grounded in evolutionary principles such as variation, selection, coevolution, and historical contingency. Rather than forecasting the future, the chapter promotes methodological flexibility, systems thinking, and curriculum reform as tools for navigating—and shaping—an increasingly complex world.
