Clean energy investment in Africa remains limited, even as global access to green finance and the adoption of sustainable banking policies continue to expand. This chapter explores how green finance and banking policies can accelerate clean energy investments across the continent. It discussed Africa’s clean energy investment landscape, reviews green finance and banking policies, explains how they promote clean energy investment, outlines implementation challenges, and discusses the role of central banks in advancing green finance and sustainable banking. The cahpter found that while some African countries have engaged in global green banking initiatives, often with the support of development partners, access to finance remains uneven and insufficient. The chapter identifies that green finance and supportive banking frameworks are essential for scaling investment, reducing risk, and strengthening institutional capacity. Central banks can play a pivotal role through incentives, green bonds, and taxonomy development. Accordingly, the chapter recommends that policymakers establish and strengthen national development banks to help bridge financing gaps and mobilise more private capital.

摘要
