Currently, cancer is the second leading cause of mortality worldwide after cardiovascular diseases. There are various treatment modalities to fight against cancer such as surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation therapies, but complete eradication remains a major challenge owing to drug resistance, significant relapse possibilities, along with non-targeted side effects creating an additional clinical burden. So, preparing a non-toxic, targeted, and cost-effective medicine against cancer is of utmost importance for clinicians and researchers. In this scenario, several phytomedicines show effective anti-cancer properties with minimal non-targeted side effects, easy availability, and cost-effective production, making them a good alternative to conventional cancer medicine. Nano-technological advancement paved the way for the development of phyto-nanotechnology, a cutting-edge fusion of phytomedicines with advanced nanotechnology, intended to enhance therapeutic efficacy, safety, bioavailability, and targeted delivery of potential phytochemicals. Phyto-nanotechnology-based drug delivery systems can potentially improve the solubility, stability, and bioavailability of phytomedicines. Recent research highlights substantial advancement in utilizing nanoparticles such as metallic nanoparticles, liposomes, and dendrimers for the effective delivery of phytomedicines. Phyto-nanotechnology includes the nanoencapsulation of phytomedicines, which can protect sensitive phytochemicals from degradation, ensuring precise delivery of the medicine to targeted tissues or cells. Additionally, phyto-nanotechnology enhances treatment efficacy along with minimizing side effects, which facilitates the development of new therapeutic interventions as an appropriate remedy against cancer. So, this synergy of phytomedicine and nanotechnology opens new avenues for developing more effective and targeted treatments in the upcoming days.
