The main purpose of this research is to investigate the digital transformation of Greece's Forestry Service and highlight the importance of information and communication technology (ICT) for improved service delivery and organizational culture change. The study, based on a survey of 232 officers (20% of the workforce) from May 2023 to February 2024, revealed limited awareness of digital transformation despite a national strategy. Findings indicate that modern digital technology adoption remains minimal and requires government support. Implementing digital transformation and smart forestry can foster an effective culture that enhances collaboration, social inclusion and accountability. It also facilitates real-time monitoring of forest conditions, aiding in fire and logging surveillance. Additionally, promoting forest ecosystem services underscores the recreational value of forests. This research aims to guide the Forestry Service in leveraging digital tools to embrace its multifunctional role in the digital era. Its originality stems from being the first study of its kind in Greece and potentially in the EU.
