Attitudes Towards Technology as a Moderator of the Relationship Between Environmental Attitudes and Pro-environmental Behavior
摘要
Environmental changes are affecting the global economy. Countries around the world are being forced to change their public policies in order to reduce environmental risks and minimize the negative economic consequences of the environmental crisis. This article presents the results of the study on the relationship between attitudes toward technology, environmental attitudes, and pro-environmental behavior. A literature review revealed an ambiguous relationship between pro-environmental behavior and people’s attitudes toward new technologies, including pessimistic, neutral, positive, and ultra-positive perceptions. A study conducted on a sample of students (N = 430) confirmed these contradictory relationships. Three attitudes toward technology were identified in the sample studied: indifferent, neutral, and pessimistic ones. The results of the correlation analysis showed that a negative attitude toward technology contributes to the actualization of the pro-environmental behavior model. Moderation analysis established that the perception of technology as unsafe weakens the link between environmental attitudes and pro-environmental behavior. Based on the data obtained, recommendations for enterprises and government agencies were developed.
