We consume, and with us, the whole world consumes; we waste, and with us, the whole world wastes! Unlike our predecessors who focused on the minimalistic lifestyles, globally majority of us, having been affected by the haphazard development and mindless consumerism have rarely paused to reflect on the relevant questions about waste—‘What is waste for us?’, ‘What are the implications of the waste that we see around us?’, ‘Do we need to minimize our waste?’, ‘How can we make the best out of the waste that is hampering our sustainable development?’ However, in contemporary times, we are all forced to reflect on the pertinent questions concerning global waste generation because leading world organizations are under pressure to adhere to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by emphasizing the principles of the circular economy (CE). The present study examined pertinent questions on waste and waste-to-wealth innovations in the context of a circular economy. Relevant sources of literature were reviewed thematically, and the research methodology comprised the examination of case studies. In alignment with the research objectives, five peculiar cases of waste management initiatives that have been proactively contributing to waste-to-wealth innovations were studied. Data for the case studies were collected using qualitative research methods, such as personal interviews and observations. Theoretical implications have also been incorporated to address the relevance of the study’s findings.

摘要
