In the previous chapter, I introduced the concept of “lived religion,” which has become increasingly influential in the study of religion over the past few decades. As the term suggests, “lived religion” is not an abstract system of doctrines but rather encompasses the everyday practices, experiences, and interpretations that individuals engage in within their religious lives. Like individual lives in general, lived religiosity is markedly varied, often reflecting the complexity of the life stories of the people who practice it. I concluded the previous chapter with a preliminary exploration of the diverse ways my interviewees relate to the Qur’an.

摘要

In the previous chapter, I introduced the concept of “lived religion,” which has become increasingly influential in the study of religion over the past few decades. As the term suggests, “lived religion” is not an abstract system of doctrines but rather encompasses the everyday practices, experiences, and interpretations that individuals engage in within their religious lives. Like individual lives in general, lived religiosity is markedly varied, often reflecting the complexity of the life stories of the people who practice it. I concluded the previous chapter with a preliminary exploration of the diverse ways my interviewees relate to the Qur’an.
