This chapter presents a lively and unconventional exploration of reflexivity in migration studies. Emerging from a dialogue between the editors and two inspiring scholars, Ali Konyali and Yolanda Hernández-Albújar, the conversation navigates the complex dynamics of knowledge production and intellectual positionality from the perspectives of both migrants researching migration and academics. The chapter interrogates foundational assumptions in migration studies, critically engaging with power, divisions of labour within academia, and the neoliberal tendencies shaping the field. It also examines how scholars from migrant backgrounds are often included in academic spaces in ways that ‘commodifies’ their experiences but do not fully integrate their contributions into theory-building and decision-making. The dialogic format captures the fluidity and tensions of reflexive perspectives, challenges traditional academic writing, and questions the sustainability of traditional academic structures in the complexifying landscape of migration studies.
