In this chapter, we present the human science approach to clinical assessment, with particular attention to forensic assessment. After reviewing the theoretical and philosophical underpinnings of the human science orientation in psychology, we describe the application of its basic assumptions to the practice of assessment. The collaborative and individualised approach developed by Constance Fischer is then introduced as an exemplar of assessment from a human science perspective. The foundational tenets of Fischer’s approach are then presented, with examples from a forensic assessment report demonstrating the application of these principles.

摘要

In this chapter, we present the human science approach to clinical assessment, with particular attention to forensic assessment. After reviewing the theoretical and philosophical underpinnings of the human science orientation in psychology, we describe the application of its basic assumptions to the practice of assessment. The collaborative and individualised approach developed by Constance Fischer is then introduced as an exemplar of assessment from a human science perspective. The foundational tenets of Fischer’s approach are then presented, with examples from a forensic assessment report demonstrating the application of these principles.
