This chapter explores the intersection of twenty-first century skills and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education, examining their interconnectedness and implications for modern learning. We trace the rise of twenty-first century skills in educational discourse, define their core components, and address critiques of the term. Reviewing the literature, we highlight the skills required for STEM employability, investigate how STEAM education fosters critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, and problem-solving, and discuss challenges in implementation. We also envision STEA+M education as a catalyst for systemic educational reform, emphasising its potential to cultivate STEM/STEA+M literacy as a foundational twenty-first century competency. By synthesising existing literature, this chapter offers insights for educators, policymakers, and researchers on leveraging STEM/STEA+M to equip learners with essential skills for the future.

摘要
