BDS (Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions) is a non-violent initiative and movement demanding the end of Israeli occupation and colonisation of Palestine, recognition of full equality for Israelis and Palestinians, and the right to return. Since its establishment in 2005, the movement’s media presence and appearance, actions, and campaigns caused controversies, on several occasions being declared illegal, mostly for alleged anti-Semitism. BDS Slovenia, one of the local branches, was established in 2012 and renamed Gibanje za pravice Palestincev (Movement for the Rights of Palestinians) in 2020. The chapter first lays out a conceptual frame that combines lifeworlds, critical consciousness, and (political) resonance and continues with an assessment of the conditions of the emergence of BDS. Narrowing the focus to social media presence in Slovenia, the chapter discusses the strategies of how a “foreign” political issue is framed in a specific national context, and what cultural and historical references it employs. To do so, the chapter conducts a qualitative analysis of BDS Slovenia’s webpage and FB profile, as well as the reception in other media. It focuses on the interplay of words and images and also discusses interviews with some BDS Slovenia members. In this respect, it focuses on the specific decisions regarding the reasons for establishing the Slovenian branch, how topics are selected and framed, and the role and function of BDS Slovenia in recent years.

摘要
