I provide a first-hand description of what it’s like to experience some of the biological uniqueness associated with a severely burned forest. These blackened forests harbor amazing congregations of woodpeckers in winter and male Calliope Hummingbirds that can be found displaying simultaneously in small lek-like areas during the breeding season.
