Many boys and young men (BYM) navigate their relationships in online spaces. BYM have been heavily critiqued for their behaviours in these spaces. What we often see can be described as overt displays of hypermasculinity, often performed to gain validation. In this chapter, we present research regarding how BYM develop knowledge in technosocial environments and experience pressures regarding sexuality and relationships. We take a nuanced look, to better understand how online spaces can also address the fundamental need for connection among young people, and can also be used to maintain offline relationships.
