Public Interest Technology (PIT) is, simply put, technology developed not for corporate profit, not owing to political interests, not because it can be done, but to benefit the public. In other words, it is an approach to developing a technology where a strong public service rationale is evident, one that is designed to have a positive social impact, perhaps only for a minority, yet that will be broadly felt by a substantial part of the population.
