In this chapter, the arteriovenous malformations (AVMs) of the cerebellopontine angle, and also the AVMs that can be surgically treated through the retrosigmoid and far-lateral approaches, are reviewed. The vascular anatomy of the cerebellopontine angle arteries and veins is reviewed in detail. AVMs are classified topographically, and the particular symptoms and microsurgical approaches are reviewed. AVMs may occur at the cerebellopontine angle, affecting the surface of the brainstem, cerebellum, and certain cranial nerves. AVMs located in the cerebellopontine angle require treatment following diagnosis due to their significant propensity for bleeding and rebleeding. Microneurosurgical intervention for AVMs effectively eliminates the risk of hemorrhage or rebleeding. Resection of brainstem lesions with parenchymal involvement carries a significant risk of morbidity; thus, stereotactic radiosurgery presents a valid alternative.
