Can Digital Literacy Counter Cyberbullying? A Scoping Review
摘要
The article examines the dynamic interplay between digital literacy and chatbots in the fight against cyberbullying. Digital literacy, defined as the competence to use digital technologies mindfully in order to access, comprehend, create, and share information, emerges as a crucial deterrent against cyberbullying. This proficiency involves understanding online dynamics, promoting responsible online behaviour, and equipping individuals with the tools to manage their online presence and digital identity effectively. It encourages awareness of digital interactions, fosters responsible conduct, and provides individuals with the skills needed to navigate the online environment securely. Research by Hinduja and Patchin (2015) [9] highlights the importance of digital literacy in reducing the risk of aggressive online behaviour, while Marrazzo’s study (2018) [6] underscores its role in fostering a safe digital space and addressing the issue of cyberbullying. In this context, the article aims to explore the current state of the scientific literature on the use of chatbots in combatting cyberbullying, identifying the ideal and functional characteristics that chatbots should possess [11]. The purpose of this scoping review is to develop a chatbot capable of identifying instances of cyberbullying in real time, detecting offensive language, and offering immediate, personalised responses to provide users with instant support, thereby enhancing their online safety and well-being.
