An Investigation of Non-competitive Gamification Additions to an Online Course
摘要
This chapter qualitatively explores non-competitive gamification in online course design. It evaluates the academic literature on gamification, highlighting the benefits of non-competitive gamification additions to courses. The Participatory Action Research (PAR) study investigates how an online course incorporates a non-competitive game-based engagement design to enhance community with enjoyable and culturally sustaining learning elements. Co-researchers’ findings identify four themes including how gamification (a) contextualizes to local university culture, (b) helps affirm positive student identity, (c) is motivating, and (d) increases the perceived relevance of the course content.
