Impact of Coalesce Access Control Mechanisms in Distributed Ledger Technology
摘要
In the digital world of open and unrestricted access, lack of supervision and standardization results in significant repercussions regarding security and confidentiality for businesses and individuals, such as unauthorized access, misuse of transparency, user profiling, and linkability. Different technological advancements suggest various tools and methods to mitigate the impact of these consequences, and blockchain is one of the most adopted technologies. Its intriguing features of immutability, transparency, confidentiality, and security make it favorable for various applications including enterprise-grade applications. In a peer-to-peer network of Blockchain, maintaining transparency and allowing open access is possible with the help of efficient Access Control mechanisms. The Access Control Mechanism allows for appropriately defined rules that govern the data circulating in the network. The rules can be subjected to various parameters like the user role, identities, and attributes, and sometimes based on the administrator’s discretion. As Blockchain is a decentralized public network, adopting these Access Control mechanisms makes it a permissioned network. This permissioned network can be built with the support of Hyperledger Fabric because of its modular architecture. The modular architecture permits the pluggable components to function conveniently and operate various chaincodes to execute the access control defined. The implementation and improvisation of different access control models so far focused on the user role, identities, and attributes individually rather than as an ensemble, which is pivotal for enterprise-grade applications. The research related to a combined approach is still sparse and yet to be explored. This paper not only highlights the advantages of combining various parameters but also emphasizes the need for further research to be carried out to design an efficient framework for data security in the permissioned Blockchain network.
