Rethinking the Imbalance in a Resource-Oriented Way. Educating Religious Education Teachers in Germany Against the Background of Current Challenges and Development Trends in the Orthodox Religious Education

This article outlines key requirements for teacher training, using the case of Religious Education (RE) in Germany as an example. It begins by contextualizing the current state of Religious Education within the broader framework of increasing secularization. Relevant statistical data regarding RE provision and student participation are presented to illustrate this development. The example of the Orthodox Church in Germany is used to highlight structural imbalances in teacher training. Subsequently, these trends are further substantiated through an analysis of the introduction of Christian Religious Education in the federal state of Lower Saxony. Finally, the article proposes future perspectives and outlines potential measures to address the identified challenges.
