Decimal arithmetic was popularized by Stevin (1585a) in his book De thiende (‘the tenth’); the French translation, made by Stevin himself, was correspondingly entitled La disme (Stevin 1585c, p. 132), while Latin decarithmia appeared in Stevin (1585b).
