Improving the Characteristics of the Foundation Soil and Controlling the Differential Settlement of High Embankments by Using Cellular Foundation Mattresses Made of Geosynthetic Materials

The consolidation solution with cellular mattresses made of geosynthetic materials has been successfully applied in areas with soft soils and with a very high deformability, especially to ensure stability and to satisfy the requirements of bearing capacity and differentiated settlement of high embankments. It allows a faster construction; it is not necessary to excavate the weak foundation soil and controlling the differential settlement of the future embankment. This method successfully uses geosynthetic materials, geogrids, to form a cellular mattress with a height between 0.50–2.00 m depending on the characteristics of the support material and the loads.
