When Edmund Burke wrote Reflections on the Revolution in France, he alleged that the changes brought on by the French Revolution were destroying traditional institutions of state, resulting in the loss of a good society (Burke, 2009). Nearly 300 years later, the political revolution that Trump brought forth has had a similar impact. Trump has fundamentally altered the meaning of American conservatism in relation to the Republican Party. He has upended the traditions of governance, setting a new precedent for generations to come. For many, this ultimately culminates in the loss of the common good.
