The design, production, and use of textile composites in aircraft, automobile and space has emerged as one of the most important areas of modern textiles. Among these materials, textile composites are a significant component of aircraft and automobile components. Aerodynamics and aeronautical applications find them especially appealing due to their superb physical qualities, remarkable strength, and stiffness-to-density ratios. High specific modulus, high specific strength, resistance to chemicals and organic solvents, good fatigue, thermal insulation and resistance to heat, impact, and stress resistance, improved dimensional stability and conformability, low flammability, and non-sensitivity to harmful radiations are the key characteristics of textile composites used in aerospace and automobile applications. This chapter reviews the unique needs, effective uses, and upcoming developments of high-performance textile composites in the automotive and aerospace industries.
