Physical Health
摘要
This chapter examines how financial resources directly affect access to healthcare services and treatments, while physical health conditions simultaneously impose substantial financial costs that can create or exacerbate financial precarity. The bidirectional relationship between the physical and financial operates through additional pathways: financial stress triggers physiological responses that compromise physical well-being, medical expenses create financial toxicity that impairs healing, and chronic conditions reduce earning capacity while increasing healthcare needs. The chapter explores these dynamics across diverse health conditions including primary care access, nutrition-related diseases, cancer treatment, medical debt accumulation, gender affirming care, cardiovascular disease, and respiratory conditions. Physical health challenges intersect with all components of financial health—financial precarity emerges from medical expenses and lost income, financial efficacy becomes crucial for navigating complex healthcare systems and insurance requirements, and financial well-being influences treatment adherence and health outcomes. For helping professionals across disciplines, understanding these relationships enables more comprehensive assessment and intervention planning that recognizes how financial circumstances and physical health mutually influence each other throughout the lifespan.
