This chapter briefly considers some of the stages in the evolution of new art worlds, genres and subgenres. It then goes on to apply those stages to a summary of British Covid fictions, demonstrating in the process that just as the dominant ideology that characterised the handling of the pandemic in the UK pre-dated the pandemic, so too that ideology remains in place after the pandemic has come to an end. This means that writers of critical realism, dedicated to a serialised practice of social observation of emerging political developments across time, are likely to turn their attention from Covid to other global challenges in the future while also retaining a commitment to critiquing the dominant ideology in the society. This ideology is referred to as pandemic politics after the pandemic.
