A VR System for Detecting Static Electricity as Invisible Creature

In this study, we explore the entertainment value of the activity of sensing imperceptible static electricity and present a VR system in which a player tactilely detects static electricity presented in a 360° radius around the forearm within the virtual space, and removes it using a controller. To achieve this, we developed a static electricity haptic device featuring two charging elements that rotate around the forearm. To enhance the perceived presence of the static electricity, vibration of the charging elements is also employed.
