As Artificial Intelligence becomes increasingly prevalent in different areas of society, enabling understanding and fostering appropriate trust in the related systems is crucial for their successful integration and adoption. One significant influence upon this, in terms of shaping general public perceptions, will be the level and nature of coverage within news and media reporting. With this in mind, this paper an analysis of 7,691 UK news articles from 2013 to 2024, providing insights into the evolution of AI representations in public discourse. The articles were sourced from mainstream media coverage, as well as specific sources relating to business, scientific and technology themes. The collected materials were then assessed using sentiment analysis and topic modelling. The results showed a significant increase in AI-related coverage over time, with a notable spike following the release of ChatGPT. While overall sentiment towards AI remained positive, there was a slight shift towards more balanced or critical coverage in recent years.
