This chapter focuses on the presentation of the types of grid-connected systems used in the residential sector, as well as their operating principles. The performance of a hybrid system depends on how precisely its components operate. Hence, the focus is placed on the design and operation of elements of a hybrid system. The advanced metering infrastructure which plays a crucial role in the communication network of the smart grid is also established.
