Due to the heterogeneity of patient factors, anatomic pathologies, and functional impairments, noted in patients with symptomatic peripheral arterial disease (PAD), or claudication, there are many different aspects of management to consider. To help guide clinicians in this area, the Society for Vascular Surgery (SVS), the American College of Cardiology/American Heart Association (ACC/AHA), and the European Society for Vascular Surgery (ESVS) have each written a set of clinical practice guidelines. Overall, these guidelines offer very similar approaches to the management of these patients, but there are some notable differences as well, which will be discussed in this chapter.
